The family of James C. Anderson, the African-American man who died after allegedly being beaten by a group of white teens and run over by a truck, is asking state and federal officials not to seek the death penalty in the case. The family said the man accused of murdering Anderson should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, but added “the punishment for those with hate in their hearts should be one tempered with love.”

Sarah Phifer may be Newby’s greatest patron ever, and now you can get a Phifer shot at Newby’s!
For her going away present, the bar created a shot called “The Phifer” which is orange vodka, orange juice and cranberry juice. I THINK. One round of Phifers we got was jager and rumple mint. I’ll have to get confirmation next time I’m at the Newbs.

Pete and Sam’s is a Memphis staple and I am ashamed to say that until August 7, 2010, I had never eaten there. I KNOW, right?!
The restaurant was started by Pete Romeo and Sam Bomarito in the 1940s and has been located on Park Ave. in Memphis since the 1960s. Sam Bomarito STILL works there! The place was PACKED when we got there and after eating there, I can see why.
My friend Sarah is about to start grad school in Oxford, MS so we had a girl’s dinner there to send her off. You can bring your own wine, so we LOVED that.

Yesterday was Memphis’ BEST bartender’s birthday.
Brian “Skinny” McCabe of Newby’s had a fun night to celebrate his special day. Youz Dudez played, we laughed, we danced, and we all ate a yummy McDonald’s Double Cheeseburger “cake.”
Newby’s, the college bar you never grow out of, is located on the Highland strip. It is more of a college scene bar but my friends and I like to pretend like we are still in college so it works for us sometimes.
They have a great deck out back, pool tables, dart boards, lots of great live music and yummy cheesy tots.
